However, despite Airbnb confirming via email that the new payment details had been received, the payment didn’t go through.
While Airbnb had emailed Charlton to let him know about the cancellation, the emails had gone to Charlton’s wife, who had opened the Airbnb account. She hadn t noticed them, so the first Charlton knew of a problem was on arrival at the guesthouse.

The government has ruled out statewide regulations on the short-stay accommodation industry as Noosa Council forges ahead with its own rules.
Noosa Council’s draft local law to regulate the operation of properties offered up as holiday rentals and home share sets out that managers of these properties must live within 20 minutes and address complaints within 30 minutes.
They would also need to register the property annually.
Airbnb head of public policy for Australia Derek Nolan said the council failed to get the balance right between the needs of hosts, guests, and residents.
“The proposed rules are effectively an assault on tourism in the region that would harm jobs and local businesses and hamper economic recovery at a critical juncture,” Mr Nolan said. ....

Airbnb and the Queensland Farmers Federation have partnered in a move to encourage more people to come and stay on local farms.
The collaboration aims to bring valuable tourism dollars to the regions while helping farmers to diversify their income.
QFF CEO Georgina Davis said the partnership was a positive step in raising Queensland s profile as an agritourism destination in Australia, estimating the sector was worth around $5 billion to the state economy by 2030.
Agritourism provides opportunities for farmers to expand their businesses and market their produce through alternative channels, while gathering valuable feedback from consumers, Dr Davis said. ....
