The founder of the Surfrider Foundation in Australia, Brad Farmer OAM, is the 2021 Byron Shire Australia Day Ambassador.
Mr Farmer grew up on Queensland’s Gold Coast and founded the Surfrider Foundation Australia, Ocean Care Day as well the National and World Surfing Reserves movements.
In 1990, as a young Greenpeace anti-nuclear campaigner in the frozen Soviet Arctic, Mr Farmer was imprisoned and interrogated by the Soviet KGB and released by presidential pardon.
Having notched up 40 years of voluntary advocacy for beach communities, he was awarded the Member of Order of Australia for his lifetime of distinguished voluntary service. ....
