Defence jobs focus of new NSC agreement
South Australian defence jobs are at the forefront of a new Cooperation Agreement signed between the Marshall Liberal Government and the Morrison Federal Government’s Naval Shipbuilding College (NSC).
The agreement will push forward the state’s agenda to expand the highly skilled naval shipbuilding workforce to deliver on future naval shipbuilding projects.
More than 4000 workers will be needed over the next four years to meet the construction and sustainment requirements of the future Hunter class frigate, future Attack class submarine and Collins class submarine in South Australia, as well as thousands of additional jobs in supply chain and supporting industries.

Toowoomba Second Range Crossing contractor fined $40,000

Date Time
Toowoomba Second Range Crossing contractor fined $40,000
At a recent hearing in the Toowoomba Magistrates Court, a contractor on the Toowoomba Second Range Crossing was fined $40,000 for failing to comply with its health and safety duty exposing workers and others to a risk of serious injury or death.
In August 2015, the company was sub-contracted to design and supply ‘Pier Formwork and Headstock Falsework’ at the Toowoomba Second Range Crossing. It also provided and erected scaffolding and supplied personnel for work on a number of piers at the viaduct on the construction site.
On 23 April 2018, Workplace Health and Safety Queensland inspectors attended the TSRC site and inspected Pier 2 of the viaduct. The inspectors witnessed at least two workers on the pier prior to their inspection. The inspectors climbed the stretcher stairs to the decks of formwork. There were no controls to prevent persons from entering the scaffold stairs and accessing the formwork decks.

Police charge four women after serious assault of sergeant and constable in Glen Iris

Date Time
Police charge four women after serious assault of sergeant and constable in Glen Iris
A sergeant from Prahran Police Station has been hospitalised and four women arrested following a serious assault in Glen Iris early this morning.
The female sergeant and male constable were responding to a noise complaint from a party being held at a short-term rental accommodation in Malvern Road just after 5am (Sunday 10 January).
As they arrived, the police officers observed a blue Mazda 3 leaving the address and followed the car to Osborne Avenue where they intercepted it.
The driver got out of the driver’s seat and moved to the passenger seat where she allegedly refused to undergo a preliminary breath test or get out of the car.
