Over the last four decades, Rohingya refugees have been fleeing in successive waves to Bangladesh from Rakhine State, Myanmar. Periodic outbreaks of violence led to large exoduses of refugees in particular in 1978, between 1991 and 1992, and in other short waves prior to August 2017.1 Since August 2017, an estimated 745,000 Rohingya refugeeshave fled to Cox’s Bazar District, Bangladesh, where approximately 860,000 refugees are now residing in 34 camps in Ukhiya and Teknaf Upazilas.2 With limited access to regular income and livelihoods opportunities in the camps, the Rohingya refugee population is highly reliant on humanitarian assistance.3 While the crisis is now in its fourth year, a return of refugees to Myanmar in the near or medium term continues to be unlikely.4 At the same time, structural factors continue to challenge the response, including ....

Since March 2021, Bangladesh has been experiencing a surge in COVID-19 cases. After months of gradual decrease, cases have increased by 350% in March compared to the previous month. Deaths also climbed to 496 from 281 in February. In response to the new COVID-19 wave, the government has imposed new regulations and movement restrictions on the public.
The national vaccination campaign is facing some challenges due to a recent temporary halt on exports by the Indian government of the COVIDShield, the OxfordAstrazeneca vaccine produced at Serum Institute of India.
As of 31 March, the health authorities have administered more than five million first doses of the vaccine. ....

Rationale and foundation of the MSNA Sudan is currently experiencing a combination of political uncertainty, economic fragility, poor service provision, continued civil conflict and vulnerability to flooding and other natural disasters. According to the 2021 Sudan Humanitarian Needs Overview (HNO), 13.4 million people (29% of the population) are in need of humanitarian assistance, an increase of 4.1 million people over 2020.3 Sudan’s Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC) “Acute Food Insecurity Projection Update” (October-December 2020) indicated that almost 7.1 million people, or 16% of the population, were experiencing high levels of acute food insecurity (IPC Phase 3 or above). Prior to that, Sudan’s pre-harvest-season June-December 2020 IPC snapshot reported that 9.6 million people, or 21% of the population, were experiencing high levels of acute food ....

15 April 2021 - Rohingya refugees living in in the Cox s Bazar camps in Bangladesh are fearing for their lives after seven more fires broke out since Sunday, taking the total number of fires to 84 in just four months, according to data from the Inter Sector Coordination Group (ISCG).
There have now been more fires in the world s largest refugee settlement since the start of 2021 than in the whole of the previous year, when 82 fires were reported. Ten fires were reported in one single day this year, on 29th March. ....
