Comancheros: Brother of gang president sentenced for money laundering, MDMA possession

Comancheros Motorcycle Club president Pasilika Naufahu was jailed for 10 years earlier this year.
Crown prosecutor Emma Smith said while Vetekina’s role was less than other defendants, he clearly occupied a senior role in the group and received significant personal benefit.
Vetekina also was found with a Ciphr phone, a device used by the gang to avoid detection, Smith said.
Lawyer Ron Mansfield said his client is a good partner and excellent father to three children under the age of 10.
Mansfield disputed Vetekina held a senior role in the gang and the money involved was relatively low compared to his co-offenders. ....

The Comancheros New Zealand president and two other senior gang members will spend a further three months behind bars after pleading guilty to assaulting a prisoner.

Naufahu previously admitted participating in an organised criminal group, unlawful possession of ammunition and four charges of money laundering, in relation to the purchase of his Bucklands Beach house.
His wife and a number of supporters were present in court for Naufahu s sentencing on Friday.

The Comanchero members and associates were arrested in April 2019 after a massive police search.
At trial, the Crown’s case was that Naufahu arrived in New Zealand with zero dollars in his bank account. Over the course of three years, more than a million dollars was deposited and withdrawn. ....

Comancheros boss Pasilika Naufahu has been sentenced to ten years in prison after last year being found guilty of money laundering and conspiring to supply drugs.
In October, after a four-week trial at the Auckland High Court, a jury found Naufahu guilty of two charges of money laundering as well as conspiring to supply the Class B drug pseudoephedrine.
He was sentenced to ten years in prison on Friday by Justice Graham Lang.
Justice Lang dismissed the defence’s attempt to limit the severity of Naufahu’s offending, saying that as the president of the New Zealand branch of the Comancheros, Naufahu’s role was as the ultimate acquirer . ....
