Beginning next year, vehicles will no longer need to stop at toll plazas to make payments. Instead, toll collection will be based on global positioning technology, Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari said during the question hour in the Lok Sabha in mid-March. Toll plaza free does not mean no toll fee. Toll charges will instead be collected through the global positioning technology. A camera will record the vehicle details at the point of entry to the toll section as well as exit from the toll section. The user will be charged only for the segment of the toll road used. We will implement this within the next one year, Gadkari had said. ....

FASTag: 788 MPs Obtained 1,136 Free Tags

The FASTag mechanism, which is mandatory for us, continues to dole out free passes to a select few. In fact, as per the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), there are total 788 members of Parliament (MPs), but 1,136 radio frequency identification (RFID) tags have been distributed under the exempted category.

Pune-based activist Sanjay Shirodkar, who has been working on the toll issue, says, As per the weekly report of NHAI, as on 31 January 2021, the Indian Highways Management Company Ltd (IHMCL) had issued 4,204 free FASTags to those in the exempted category. Earlier, there were just five to seven top office bearers like the President and the Prime Minister, who were exempted from paying toll on official duty. Now the list has increased to more than 25 categories. ....

ICICI Bank joins hands with Google Pay for FASTag payment - Here s how users can use it

ICICI Bank FASTag available on Google Pay New Delhi, Dec 28 (PTI) ICICI Bank on Monday announced its collaboration with Google Pay for issuance of FASTag through UPI on the payments app.
This enables Google Pay users to order, track and even recharge ICICI Bank FASTag conveniently and digitally through UPI on the payments app itself.
This initiative ensures the safety of the applicants as they don t have to visit merchants or toll locations to buy a FASTag. With this, ICICI Bank becomes the first bank to join hands with Google Pay for issuance of FASTag, according to a statement. ....
