Trade bodies urge Centre to ask public sector units to streamline supply of raw materials at fair prices
After the sharp rise in steel and cement prices, the plastics processing sector has raised concern over substantial increase in the price of key raw material polymer on the back of alleged artificial shortage created by petrochemical companies including some of the public sector units.
Almost 50,000 micro, small and medium enterprises, which were operating at 50 per cent capacity utilisation, are on the verge of closure if the current raw material crisis continues, industry insiders say. ....

Bengaluru, Jan 24: Union Chemicals and Fertilisers Minister D V Sadananda Gowda has announced a Rs 50,000 crore mega investment plan for the revival of four fertilizer factories and the setting up of a plastic park in the coastal city of Mangaluru with Rs 40 crore funding from the Centre.
The Minister said the Narendra Modi government has decided to develop two plastic parks as part of self-reliant India scheme in the coastal city of Mangaluru in Karnataka and Gorakpur in Uttar Pradesh, which have been given in principle clearance at the steering committee meeting of the Petrochemicals Ministry. ....
