It’s just Rajpath and if you’re looking for a shorthand way of referring to it, try ‘India Gate’. Unless you’re an urban historian or an annoyingly knowing person, ‘the Central Vista’ means nothing. Nobody you or I know has ever said to the family, “let’s drive off and have an ice-cream on the Central Vista”. On the other hand, “let’s go to India Gate for an ice-cream” has been the cue for a stock outing for generations of Dilli ....

Renowned Batik artist Yasala Balaiah, 81 breathed his last in Hyderabad on Wednesday. The artist, believed to be a close associate of Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, rose to fame for his paintings that depicted the newly-formed state’s rural culture. Earlier today, the CM also took to Twitter to condole his passing away and said that Balaiah’s death was a “loss” to the art world. ....
