Jakarta, Dec. 18 (CNA) The Indonesian government on Thursday expressed disappointment at Taiwan s decision to indefinitely suspend the entry of Indonesian migrant workers, and it called for the policy to be reconsidered, saying it had recently been investigating health protocols at its manpower agencies.
Taiwan s Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) temporarily suspended the entry of Indonesian migrant workers on Dec. 4 amid a rising number of COVID-19 cases from the country.
On Wednesday, it announced that it was extending the restrictions indefinitely, as the Indonesian government had failed to address concerns about the accuracy of COVID-19 test results being issued to migrant workers. ....

TAIPEI (Taiwan News) The Indonesian government on Thursday (Dec. 17) expressed regret over Taiwan s decision to extend the entry ban on Indonesian migrant workers indefinitely, urging it to reconsider the measure.
During a press conference on Wednesday, Taiwan s Health Minister Chen Shih-chung (陳時中) announced the government will continue to suspend entry of Indonesian migrant workers due to the increasing number of imported coronavirus cases from Indonesia. Taiwan had placed a temporary entry ban on all Indonesian migrant workers from Dec. 4-17 after it received 28 imported cases from the Southeast Asian nation in just five days. ....

TAIPEI (Reuters): Taiwan s government on Wednesday (Dec 16) extended a ban on Indonesian workers coming to the island for an indefinite period, citing a surge in the number of infected people arriving and lack of cooperation from Indonesia s government in verifying documents.
Taiwan is home to more than 250,000 migrant workers from Indonesia, which has the highest tally of virus infections and deaths in South-east Asia.
They mostly work as domestic helpers.
Taiwan last month announced a two-week suspension for the entry of Indonesian workers, which the government will now extend, the Central Epidemic Command Centre said.
It did not give a date for when it will re-open entry for the workers, only that the government will make the decision depending on the pandemic situation in Indonesia. ....
