York Region school board unveils anti-Black racism strategy to be rolled out over 5 years

York Region District School Board released its Dismantling Anti-Black Racism Strategy at a virtual event on Monday that drew about 1,300 registrants.(York Region District School Board)
The York Region District School Board has unveiled what it calls its dismantling anti-Black racism strategy, a plan board officials say will take five years to implement.
The strategy was developed in response to continued evidence of anti-Black racism in schools, the board said in a news release Monday night.
The systemic nature of anti-Black racism requires that school boards act proactively to support greater access to education and opportunities for all students and to challenge the marginalization of Black students, staff and families, the statement reads. ....

The final instalment of the four-part Anti-Racism webinar series organised by the University of Bristol Anti-Racism Steering Group, in collaboration with
Epigram and the BAME Network took place on 25 February.
The series concluded with a discussion addressing racism and microaggressions on campus with the panel consisting of Sarah Purdy, Pro-Vice Chancellor for Student Experience and Julio Mkok, Union Affairs Officer and Co-Chair of the Board of Trustees at the Students’ Union.
The event was co-chaired by Khadija Meghrawi, Chair of the BAME Network and Robiu Salisu, Student Inclusion Officer. The pair communicated pre-submitted questions to Sarah and Julio as well as some live questions that came in from audience members during the webinar. ....
