New townhouse development planned for centre of Ipswich

FRESH plans for a townhouse development in the centre of Ipswich close to the showgrounds and the University of Southern Queensland campus have been submitted to the council for approval.
Martin and Sheila Liney lodged a development application to Ipswich City Council to build eight two-storey townhouses on land over 1 and 1b Salisbury Road.
The application notes approval for a development with nine three-storey units on the same site had already been given the green light by the council.
The proposal is for eight two-storey units.
“The current proposal is intended to replace that approval,” the application stated.

PREVIEW: Countdown to return of Ipswich Show


IN LITTLE more than 72 hours, thousands of attendees will once again walk through the gates of Ipswich Showgrounds, signalling the return of the city’s beloved Ipswich Show.
It will be the first major multi-day event to take place for the city in 2021 after organisers were last year forced to cancel it due to COVID-19 lockdown.
While kick-off for the three-day event nears, seasoned workers setting up sideshow alley and food stalls remain cool, calm and collected despite the big job at hand.
The popular dodgem cars will likely draw crowds come Friday.

THE 2011 floods in Ipswich were not a first for Blair MP Shayne Neumann.
As a boy living with his family in Trumper St, East Ipswich in 1974, he experienced the devastation inflicted on a city unprepared for such an environmental disaster.
With his own house under more than two metres of water in '74, Mr Neumann's family fled to North Booval, only to be forced to evacuate a second time when the Bremer River rose there.
He still remembers the vital contribution made by then-councillor Des Freeman and his wife Colleen in helping flood victims.
The ability of the community to help its own is a theme that still resonates.

THE sight of more than 700kg of cackling kookaburra being towed behind a ute is sure to raise a chuckle from Ipswich residents this weekend.
The giant laughing kookaburra is the creation of Ipswich artist Dr Farvardin Daliri, who has taken a particular liking to Aussie fauna and famous faces over the years.
Made from a welded steel frame, coated in bamboo and straw, the kookaburra will be on show alongside one of Dr Daliri's other creations, a koala, at the Australiana Christmas Market this Sunday.
 
 
The special market at the Ipswich Showgrounds was postponed to this Sunday following last weekend's deluge.
