Most animal lovers in East Bengaluru know Anuradha Sridhar. Since she moved to live in Cox Town about three years ago, she has helped many animals on the street. Some she has nursed, some she has gotten neutered, others she helped find a home and the rest she continues to feed and help in all ways possible. Now, Sridhar, along with her family and some neighbours, has been helping animals in her apartment complex, Purva Park. ....

CUPA, Ashraya Hastha Trust feed 5,000
dogs, cattle and horses during lockdown
The state government and the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) are yet to make a decision on feeding
stray dogs, after 26 days since the lockdown came into effect. However, some volunteers and organisations have made arrangements to feed 5,000
animals in the city during this time.
There are 3.10 lakh stray dogs and thousands of cattle in the city.
Compassion Unlimited Plus Action (
CUPA), in partnership with Ashraya Hastha Trust, is helping over 5,000 animals, including stray dogs, cattles and horses during this crisis. Many animals were left hungry after the initial lockdown in May 2021. The Ashraya Hastha Trust stepped forward to sponsor the daily food that would be provided to these animals during this time. ....

The Bangalore Turf Club (BTC) on Thursday said that it would soon shift 200 of the around 800 horses to a private horse-breeding and stable centre on the outskirts of the city to speed up the work of modernising the stables in the premises.
Also, the BTC told the court that work has begun on removing the asbestos sheet, as per recommendations of an expert appointed by the Animal Welfare Board of India on the court’s direction. ....

Person accused of cruelty can't retain dogs during probe: Karnataka HC


Court says animal has right to ‘get protection from human beings against inflicting unnecessary pain’
Citing right to dignity and fair treatment of animals under law, the Karnataka High Court has found fault with an order of a trial court in granting custody of seized dogs to their owner, who has been accused of treating them with cruelty, during the pendency of the case registered against him by the police.
“Right to live in a healthy and clean atmosphere and right to get protection from human beings against inflicting unnecessary pain or suffering is a right guaranteed to the animals under Section 3 and Section 11 of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (PCA) Act read with Article 51-A(g) and (h) [fundamental duties] of the Constitution of India,” the High Court observed. ....
