February 3, 2021
By Jessica Mathews / news@whmi.com
The Salvation Army of Livingston County was able to meet its Christmas campaign fundraising goal thanks to the generosity of the community.
Officials say the 2020 bell ringing season was full of challenges that included fewer kettle locations, minimal volunteers, and many more. COVID-19 brought on its own challenges from ensuring everyone was safe to volunteers getting sick and having to cancel - all of which worried the Salvation Army of Livingston County. Reaching into January, the local Corps still had not met their goal of $385,000. However, Lt. Rob Leach says they kept the faith that things would work out and they did, saying the season blessed them with many generous donors and several record-breaking weekends. ....

January 16, 2021
By Jessica Mathews / news@whmi.com
The Salvation Army of Livingston County is reminding the community that need knows no season and the local Corps is still raising funds to hopefully reach its Christmas goal.
Thanks to the thousands of volunteers this November and December, the Salvation Army says it was able to serve over 900 Livingston County families this Thanksgiving and Christmas, provide 3,455 pounds of food through its pantry and help countless individuals with shelter, rent, utilities and more. Organizations, families and corporations virtually collected toys, physically rang bells at Red Kettles, hosted virtual kettle and donated monetarily - all of which helped serve thankful families that would have gone without this holiday season and will help keep families in need supported through 2021. Officials say the season of giving is now gone but the need still exists. ....

WHMI 93.5 Local News : One Month Remains In Salvation Army Christmas Campaign

January 1, 2021
By Mike Kruzman / news@whmi.com
There is still time to donate to help the Salvation Army of Livingston County reach their holiday goal and better support families-in-need over the coming year.
The Salvation Army’s Christmas Campaign is their largest fundraising effort each year, with money donated supporting several year-round programs. This year’s 3-month campaign goal is $385,000. With one month to go, the local corps is reporting that they are still $99,500 away.
Lt. Robert Leach said, in a release, that meeting the goal this year is especially important. Fundraisers that were allowed to be held brought in less than half of their normal amounts, due to COVID-19. Their annual Car Show fundraiser was one that had to be cancelled. Leach said that event typically brings in $17,000, and its absence had made an impact on their budget. He expressed a desire to meet people’s needs, which have increased due ....

WHMI 93.5 Local News : Salvation Army Red Kettle Campaign Entering Final Push

December 23, 2020
By Jessica Mathews/News@whmi.com
The Salvation Army of Livingston County is entering the final push of its annual red kettle Christmas campaign.
The Christmas Campaign is the largest fundraising effort for the local Corps each year. Everything raised supports year round programs and services to help meets the needs of local residents, which officials say are needed more than ever due to the ongoing pandemic.
As of Tuesday, the local Corps had $129,000 left to raise toward its $385,000 goal. Red kettles will be out at locations today and then from 10am to 2pm on Christmas Eve.
Lt. Robert Leach says the community support has been amazing – especially considering that they’ve been low on bell ringers and haven’t had as many spots open as they would typically like. Leach says they’ve noticed that when the red kettles are out though, the Livingston County community has been very gracious ....
