The Second Story Women’s Centre is offering a unique gift idea for Mother’s Day this year.
This year people will be able to gift counseling sessions that the shelter offers to women and gender-oppressed individuals.
On their website, you can gift the session to your mother who will then be sent info on what their gift will go towards.
Each gift will cover the cost of one individual session which will then be used on one of the shelter’s patrons.
Executive Director of Second Story, Rhonda Lemire says with the COVID-19 pandemic it has been hard for them to fundraise and as a result, they need as much help as possible to keep their services up and running. ....

Some boys may have the opportunity to go to a new boys camp offered by the Second Story Women’s Centre this summer.
The centre has traditionally only offered day camps for girls. But they hope the boys camp will be an opportunity to start meaningful conversations about gender equity with boys, said Liz McCurdy, Program Coordinator at the centre, in an interview.
“We believe that empowering girls and women… is only half the solution to ending violence against women,” she said.
Both the boys and girls camps will have largely the same activities: hiking, kayaking, STEM activities and environmental pursuits, all aimed at building leadership skills.  ....

Lemire is the executive director at the Second Story Women’s Centre. She says that they’ve seen increased demand for counselling services related to sexual assault over the past year.
