Election of Speaker and Deputies a plus for Ghana's democracy — Franklin Cudjoe – Ghana Visions

The Founding President and Chief Executive Officer of IMANI Africa Mr Franklin Cudjoe has described the election of the Speaker of Parliament and his two deputies as a plus for Ghana’s democracy.
Mr Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), was on Thursday, elected the Speaker of the Eighth Parliament of the Fourth Republic of Ghana.
Whilst Mr Joseph Osei-Owusu of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) and Andrew Asiamah Amoako, an Independent Member of Parliament for Fomena were elected First and Second Deputy Speakers respectively.
Mr Cudjoe in an interview with the Ghana News Agency in Accra, said the election of the three men would go a long way to help address the issue of winner takes all in the body politics of the nation; stating that “somehow, this has been cured”. ....

The Speaker of the 8th Parliament of the 4th Republic, Rt. Hon. Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin has attended a Thanksgiving mass held for him at the Christ The King Church in Accra yesterday on his successful election to the high office.
Mr Bagbin, speaking at the service expressed gratitude to God for the honour done him and has asked for wisdom to serve God and country.
According to him, he considers himself a mere vessel in the creative hands of God to do good according to his guidance and direction”. ....

The leadership of the ruling New Patriotic Party says it cannot be blamed for the defeat of its nominee, Prof. Aaron Mike Oquaye, in Ghana’s 8th Parliament Speakership race.
Following the defeat suffered by the party’s candidate in the Thursday, January 7, morning election, some party members including a Member of Parliament blamed the leadership of the NPP.
But in a statement signed by Alhaji Iddi Muhayu-Deen, the Press Secretary to the General Secretary said;
It is not true that no national executive of the NPP was present in Parliament at that special sitting to elect a Speaker. Indeed, the General Secretary of the party, John Boadu, representing the national party, spent the whole night in Parliament keenly observing proceedings and communicating with members and leadership of the NPP Majority Caucus on critical matters that were before them . ....

It's mischievous to blame NPP national executives for Mike oquaye's defeat- John Boadu's Aide reacts

The aide to the General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), John Boadu has debunked claims that the national leadership of the party did not give Professor Mike Oquaye the needed support in the Speaker of Parliament elections held on Thursday, January 7, 2021.
Alhaji Iddi Muhayu-Deen said the party provided enough support and did a lot of work in the interest of the party regarding the elections.
His comment is in reaction to claims by the party’s Member of Parliament for Subin Constituency, Eugene Boakye Antwi that Prof. Oquaye’s defeat should be blamed on the national leadership of the NPP. ....
