Baghdad, Apr 25 (EFE).- A fire in a Baghdad Covid-19 hospital has killed at least 60 coronavirus patients, an Iraq interior ministry official said Sunday.
The fire at the Ibn al-Khatib hospital erupted late Saturday due to an explosion of oxygen cylinders, the lieutenant colonal rank official told EFE, requesting anonymity.
Most of the patients died “due to suffocation” after the explosion sparked a massive blaze at the health center in the south of the Iraqi capital, the official said, fearing that the toll might increase. ....

Dozens of people were killed when oxygen tank exploded late on Saturday at a hospital treating Covid-19 patients on the outskirts of Baghdad, Iraqi security and health officials said.
The explosion caused a fire in the pulmonary intensive care unit on the second floor of the Ibn Al Khateeb hospital in Jisr Diyala district, the head of the Iraqi Civil Defenc

“Elderly and [coronavirus] patients were on pulmonary devices and that made it impossible for them to move,” Maj Gen Kadhim Bohan told state-run TV as firefighters battled flames behind him.

Baghdad, Apr 25 (EFE).- At least 82 people have died in a huge fire at a hospital for Covid-19 patients in the Iraqi capital Baghdad, the country’s interior ministry said on Sunday.
The ministry added that 110 others were injured in the blaze that broke out late Saturday at the Ibn al-Khatib hospital in southeastern Baghdad.
The fire is believed to have started after oxygen cylinders exploded, a security official told Efe, on condition of anonymity.
Most of the patients died “due to suffocation” after the explosion sparked a massive blaze at the health center, the official said. ....

The Iraqi Prime Minister, Mustafa Al-Kazemi, suspended the Minister of Health, Hassan Al-Tamimi, from work and referred him for investigation, after a deadly fire broke out in a hospital in the capital, Baghdad, according to a government statement.
The fire, which broke out on Saturday evening, killed at least 82 people and injured 110 others at Ibn Al-Khatib Hospital, which was equipped to receive Covid-19 patients.
Reports indicate that an accident caused the explosion of an oxygen tank, which led to the outbreak of the fire. ....
