Colombo, April 6 (IANS) Sri Lankan President Gotabaya Rajapaksa has imposed an immediate ban on the import of palm oil and ordered the gradual removal of the crops, in a move to eliminate the environmentally harmful cultivations in the country, an official said on Tuesday.

(Business in Cameroon) - Q2-2021 will be a tough quarter for livestock producers in Cameroon. This is the recent forecast published by the Bank of Central African States (BEAC) in its Q2-2021 business cycle analysis.
Based on answers of the actors surveyed for the elaboration of the business cycle analysis, the BEAC forecasts gloomy prospects for the livestock sector. According to the central bank, in Cameroon (as well as the Central African Republic and Equatorial Guinea), the sector will be affected by the security situation, the scarcity of inputs and

Pakistan s trade deficit increased by 20.05 percent during the first three quarters
ISLAMABAD (APP) - The exports from the country increased by 7.12 percent during the first three quarters of the current fiscal year (2020-21) as compared to the corresponding period of last year, Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) reported.
The exports from the country during July-March (2020-21) were recorded at $18.685 billion against the exports of $17.443 billion during July-March (2019-20), according to the latest PBS data.
The imports during the period under review also increased by 13.57 percent by growing from $34.791 billion last year to $39.512 billion during the first three quarters of current fiscal year. ....

Mandatory registration of copper, aluminium products import is a welcome move

The process of mandatory registration of import contracts for several copper and aluminium items under the ‘Non-ferrous metal import monitoring system’ has kicked-in from April 5. This move is sure to help more rational intervention decisions by policy-makers, whenever needed.
This follows a similar move in September 2019 when steel products import was brought under steel import monitoring system. Later it was extended to coal. Steel importers had protested when compulsory registration of contract was introduced (see BL Commentary September 13, 2019), but have now fallen in line.
