The Ministry of Youth, Sports and Community Empowerment rolled out a number of programmes geared toward young people so they can contribute more to national development.
On Sunday night during his address at a St Michael South Barbados Labour Party branch meeting at the Graydon Sealy Secondary School, Minister of Youth Dwight Sutherland said there would come a day when young people would have to lead Barbados and his ministry was committed to ensuring they had the necessary skills to do so. ....

Partnership to help former inmates

The Youth Entrepreneurship Scheme has partnered with Prison Fellowship Barbados to give former inmates an opportunity to earn a decent living.
Minister of Youth Dwight Sutherland, who was speaking today during a presentation of landscaping equipment to Prison Fellowship Barbados, said incarceration had long lasting effects and it was time more programmes were enacted for those who had committed petty crimes.
During the presentation at the ministry’s training room, Haggatt Hall, St Michael, executive director of the Prison Fellowship Neil Dowden said the former inmates would be granted Government contracts but also urged the private sector to hire them. ....

Joblessness has risen alarmingly high among the nation’s 60,000 young people, Minister of Youth Dwight Sutherland has acknowledged, as unemployment rises steadily during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The minister admitted, that the high levels of youth unemployment were indeed a cause of concern for Government as he gave brief remarks on Friday before handing keys to newly built kiosks at Parkinson Field, The Pine, to five ‘blockpreneurs’ who were part of the Government’s Building Blocks project.
He said: “The youth unemployment is very high – we have approximately I am being told 60,000 young people in this country, 4,000 of those young persons leave school on average annually. We have to find work for them. That is what this ministry is [about], not only this ministry because we partner with other ministries like the Ministry of Energy, Ministry of Business, and M ....

Three more entrepreneurs get kiosks in Building Blocks programme

Three entrepreneurs now have kiosks from which to operate thanks to the Building Blocks Initiative.
The Division of Youth programme involves building kiosks for small business people, training them and then handing over the keys.
Minister of Youth, Sports and Community Empowerment Dwight Sutherland said the initiative was a way to create economic prosperity among ordinary Barbadians and urged the public to support the men and women when the second set of kiosks were handed over in Bonnetts, Britton’s Hill, St Michael today. ....
