Hero wedding guests save men from crashed and sinking boat 17 Feb, 2021 03:58 AM 4 minutes to read Rotorua s Jason McMillan and his mates heard the sound of a boat crashing in darkness of the night, then the horrible noise of a revving engine that was clearly in trouble. Two of them acted quickly, broke into a boat shed, stole a kayak and paddled into the darkness to help. The drama unfolded on Friday night when McMillan was staying at a Marlborough Sounds resort for a wedding he was to be a groomsman at the next day. He and a few of the bridal party and other guests were a few beers in when they heard the commotion on the water outside their rooms where they were drinking about 10.30pm. ....

A wedding party at a Marlborough Sounds resort rescued two men injured in a boat crash at the weekend, using kayaks to reach the sinking boat. Bride Robyn McLaughlin, of Wellington, said her bridal party had “just put their face masks on” when they heard a loud bang near The Portage Hotel in the Kenepuru Sound, about 11pm on Friday. “We had heard the boat start up in the bay, and I remember thinking, ‘I hope that’s not the boys, at that time of night’. And then we heard the crash,” she said. ....
I adore Christmas time and I suppose it s not much of a surprise that, for me, so much of it is about the food. The food, and family and friends. Whether that s sharing a glass of sherry and a mince pie with a friend, sipping mulled wine by a cosy fireplace or enjoying a slice of cheese with some chutney I ve made as a gift for a loved one. Then everything culminates in the final main event, the centrepiece of the festive season that everything has been leading up to: my St Stephen s Day leftovers sandwich! Before we get to the sandwich though, there s the small matter of the Christmas meal to talk about - a proper, old-fashioned, no-holding-back feast.
