Kidnapping: Police parade widow among suspects 'terrorising' Zamfara, Kano

The police in Kano on Wednesday paraded a 23-year-old widow, Maryam Muhammad, and three other suspected kidnappers, allegedly operating in Kano and Zamfara states.
Ms Muhammad is from Butsa village in Gusau Local Government Area of Zamfara State. The police said her husband was a notorious cattle rustler who had been killed while stealing cows.
Parading the suspects, the police spokesperson in Kano, Abdullahi Haruna, said they were arrested on Friday at an apartment in Kano where they were holding a victim, Mohammed Sanusi.
Mr Haruna said the suspects had demanded N10 million ransom from Mr Sanusi’s parents when they were arrested. ....

Officers of the Kano StatePolice Command have arrested a 23-year-old woman identified as Maryam Mohammed for kidnapping her ex-boyfriend who refused to marry her after years of courtship.
Maryam, popularly called Hajiya, was arrested by the police at Jaba quarters, Ungogo local government area of Kano state while negotiating a ransom with the family of one of their captives last Tuesday, January 12.
According to Maryam, she was introduced to kidnapping by her uncle, one Hamza Dogo of Butsa village, Gusau local government of Zamfara state after she had parted ways with her ex-boyfriend.
She said:
“I was introduced into kidnapping by my uncle called Hamza from Butsa village, Gusau local government of Zamfara state and the first person we kidnapped was my ex-boyfriend who refused to marry me despite my efforts to get him convinced during our years of courtship. ....
