UNDERSTANDING the needs of a child with autism is important for their development, says consultant paediatrician Dr Shan Narayanan. He said by identifying the kind of support a child needed, one could properly manage and help with their growth. “It is important to understand them and identify their strengths and weaknesses. “For a child, early intervention is helpful, and some ways of managing include parent empowerment, teaching in a specialised environment and therapy, ” he explained during a webinar titled “Autism Spectrum Disorder: The Rising Star”. ....

TAKING part in wushu as a co-curricular activity in secondary school has continued to reap dividends for two students from Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR). Ong Wesley and Ng Yong Quan, who are members of the university’s wushu club, won two medals each at the International WuDeBei Traditional Wushu Online Competition 2020. Ong bagged gold for Gong Li Quan and bronze for Qun Yang Gun, while Ng took home two silvers for Traditional Baji Fist and Traditional Double Weapon. UNIVERSITI Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR) celebrated a triple success for winning the first prize as well as two third prizes in the “SIMS Challenge 2020 – Innovative Application of Game Technologies”, a virtual international event showcasing games for healthcare training and education. Three UTAR teams – MDR Observers from the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences (FMHS), Alchemist from the Faculty of Information and Communication Technology (FICT), and Cells-at-Work from the Faculty of Science (FSc) – walked away with the first prize, third prize (I) and third prize (II), respectively. The event was organised by Serious Games Association, a not-for-profit volunteer-driven transnational society registered in Singapore, and SingHealth Duke-NUS Institute of Medical Simulations (SIMS). ....
