PROVIDENCE, RI A Rhode Island man who called himself Mr. Vacation has been indicted on charges that he stole Social Security numbers to apply for CARES Act unemployment funds in Pennsylvania and for Economic Injury Disaster Loans from the SBA.
A federal grand jury in Providence on Friday returned a 17-count indictment naming 28-year-old Courtney Hilaire, a Providence man who formerly lived in Avon, Massachusetts. Hilaire, who in 2020 was arrested on state charges in both Warwick and Pawtucket, is now charged with conspiracy to commit wire fraud, 14 counts of wire fraud, and two counts of aggravated identity theft. ....

Apex serial fraudster sent back to federal prison for investment scam involving impersonation of mayor, professor, and government agency


NEW BERN, NC  An Apex man was sentenced today to 75 months in federal prison and ordered to pay $909,763.28 in restitution owed to dozens of victims on charges of Wire Fraud and Aiding and Abetting and Aggravated Identity Theft.
Acting United States Attorney G. Norman Acker, III stated, This was a case involving a serial con artist who, in the course of evading the repayment of restitution to victims of his prior federal offense, engaged in a new, and more extensive fraud scheme, harming others. I am pleased that the court saw fit to return the defendant to prison to protect the public from the ongoing economic threat he continues to pose to trusting citizens. ....

Rock Hill man sentenced to twelve years in federal prison for involvement in fentanyl pill case


Columbia, South Carolina  Fate Thomas McClurkin, Jr. of Rock Hill, was sentenced to twelve years in federal prison for conspiracy to possess with the intent to distribute fentanyl and cocaine, as well as conspiracy to commit money laundering.
Evidence presented in court established that, through an investigation into Darryl Hemphill and Hemphill s drug trafficking organization, federal agents learned that McClurkin was responsible for selling drugs obtained from Hemphill, including cocaine and clandestinely made pills that contained fentanyl. It was further known that McClurkin had a close relationship with Hemphill related to trafficking voluminous amounts of drugs in the Rock Hill and Charlotte regions. As a co-conspirator in Hemphill s drug trafficking organization, McClurkin was fully aware the pills purchased and sold by him were fake Roxicodone pills that were made with fentanyl. ....
