Chamoli disaster: Many people found in Tapovan tunnel were alive till Feb 13, says official

DEHRADUN: After MS Khati, additional chief medical officer of Chamoli district said that those found from the tunnel must have been alive for 4-5 days, the state government officials issued a clarification on Tuesday evening.  
MS Khati, the ACMO earlier in the day had said, Most people found in the tunnel died 2-3 days after the flash floods. The post-mortem reports indicate that they died 4-5 days back. Many of died on February 12-13.
A total of 11 bodies have been recovered from the Tapovan tunnel out of which two were recovered on Tuesday. 
Dr GS Rana, chief medical officer of Chamoli district who featured in the clarification video on the matter, said, The Post-mortem of all 58 bodies has been conducted following the norms. These people died of trauma due to multiple reasons including injuires, filling of sludge, muck, sand and water in their lungs. A total of 53 bodies have so far been recovered from the Tapovan Tunnel in Chamoli district’s Joshimath, news agency ANI cited Uttarakhand’s State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) as saying.
This came following an eight-day operation to rescue around 30 people feared trapped in the tunnel after a flashflood-hit Chamoli district’s Joshimath area on February 7. On February 14, the authority had said that 41 bodies had been recovered. The flash flood may have been possibly triggered by an avalanche in the upper reaches of the Alaknanda river system. ....

At least 14 people have been killed and over 150 are feared missing, after a glacier burst in Uttarakhand s Chamoli district on Sunday. The outburst of the glacier increased the water level in the Alaknanda river system which in turn washed away hydroelectric stations and several small bridges. The bursting of glacier forced the authorities to evacuate low-lying vllages.
Several teams of national and state disaster response teams have been deployed to take care of relief and rescue operations. Teams from the ITBP are also working to open up the tunnels where several people are feared trapped. The Army has sent six columns to assist in the rescue operations. ....

Uttarakhand SDRF launches COVID awareness campaign ahead of Kumbh Mela

Dehradun (Uttarakhand) [India], January 8 (ANI): Uttarakhand State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) on Friday launched a COVID-19 awareness campaign in Haridwar in the area where the Kumbh Mela will be held.
As per an official release, eight teams of the SDRF are deployed in Kumbh kshetra to carry out the COVID-19 awareness campaign and educate more than eleven thousand local residents, devotees and other stakeholders on combating the COVID-19 situation.
Uttarakhand has 3,309 active cases and as many as 1,555 people have succumbed to the infection.
The SDRF has been running public awareness campaigns since the cases of COVID-19 started reporting in the state, but it is a priority to educate people about the ways to prevent the spread of COVID-19. To speed up the process, National Cadet Corps, National Service Sc ....
