Robbins Island off north-west Tasmania plans to build a windfarm that could threaten the disease-free Tasmanian devil population according to federal environment officials.
The planned windfarm worried environmental officials about the potential damage it could impose to the Tasmanian Devils and their survival.
According to Guardian Australia, the threat this could bring can be serious as there is currently no comparable habitat anywhere that could compensate for the project s impact on the island s unique devil colony.

A community meeting hosted by the Circular Head Coastal Awareness Network (CHCAN) at the Smithton Recreation attracted 150 locals keen to learn both sides of the narrative in regards to the Robbins Island Renewable Energy Park application set to be tabled early this year.
Emcee Leanne Minshull was joined by Michael Anderson, Craig Garland and Ben Marshall on the panel, as well as Birdlife expert Eric Woehler joining the meeting via Zoom.
The group touched on a wealth of concerns, namely the environmental impact of the transmission line, the impact of putting a bridge across Robbins Passage, the impact on birdlife, the lack of benefits to the local community, the Marinus Link and concerns about jobs being outsourced to fly in fly out workers among other things. ....

Genex needs more time to seal deal for Kidston pumped hydro project

Genex has told shareholders that it will need more time to finalise negotiations for the construction of its flagship pumped hydro energy storage project in Queensland, with talks with key project partners still ongoing.
In a statement to the ASX on Friday, Genex said that it would require additional time to reach contractual close on its flagship pumped hydro energy storage project, the latest of a number of delays.
“Following a period of significant activity with all stakeholders it has become apparent that Contractual Close is now anticipated to occur in late Q1 CY2021, with Financial Close and commencement of construction to follow early in Q2 CY2021,” the company said in the statement. ....
