Cambodia reports biggest daily jump of 938 new Covid-19 cases, total tally at 16,299

PHNOM PENH, May 4 (Xinhua): Cambodia on Tuesday recorded an all-time high of 938 new local Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours, pushing the national tally to 16,299, the Ministry of Health (MoH) said in a statement.
The figure topped the previous highest daily record of 880 cases reported on April 28.
The new infections included 608 capital Phnom Penh, 175 in Kandal province, and 77 in Preah Sihanouk province.
One more death was confirmed, bringing the death toll to 107, the statement said, adding that 361 patients have recovered, taking the total number of recoveries to 5,791. ....

BANGKOK, May 2 (Reuters): Thailand s finance ministry has reduced its 2021 economic growth forecast for a second time this year to 2.3% from 2.8% growth, after a third wave of coronavirus infections struck the tourism-reliant nation this month. Thailand s latest Covid-19 outbreak has seen half of its overall cases reported this month alone and came as the Southeast Asian country was preparing to reopen more broadly to foreign tourists, as vaccinations increase globally. The ministry slashed its forecast for the number of foreign tourists to only 2 million this year from 5 million it had predicted three months ago, senior ministry official Kulaya Tantitemit told a briefing. That compares to nearly 40 million in 2019, before the pandemic hit. The expected fewer tourists will have quite an impact as that will cut tourism money to just over 100 billion baht ($3.2 billion) from 260 billion baht previously projected, she said. HANOI, May 2 (Vietnam News/ANN): Vietnam s index of industrial production (IIP) in April rose by 24.1 per cent year-on-year, driven by the positive impact of free trade agreements (FTA), according to the General Statistics Office.
The IIP in the first four months of 2021 enjoyed a year-on-year increase of 10 per cent, boosted by the growth of manufacturing and processing (12.7 per cent), electricity production and supply (6.6 per cent), and water supply and waste and wastewater treatment (7.5 per cent). ....
