Levy coming to Shawnee schools voters

The Shawnee school board took the first step toward getting a 5-year, 4.58 mill tax levy on the May 4 ballot.

Shawnee schools to pursue levy
• Request for $2.2 million or 4.58 mills, 5-year emergency levy.
• Last request for levy was 2018, for $1.95 million or 4.48 for 10 years. Not approved by voters. The board reports making more than $600,000 in cuts.
• Loss of Tangible Personal Property Tax Reimbursement and state budget cuts. New money for district last approved by voters in 2004.
• Fate of new school funding model in state legislature is unknown. ....
