The law merges all pension schemes covering county government workers including the County Pension Fund (CPF).
But court battles have hindered the consolidation of the pension schemes, leaving them running independently.
On Wednesday, the two schemes, the Retirement Benefits Authority (RBA) and the Kenya County Government Workers Union (KCGWU) appeared before Senate’s Labour Committee where they expressed willingness to engage in discussions to end the standoff.
However, the stakeholders said they would only participate in talks led by a third party and on neutral grounds. ....

The construction of the Ksh 5 billion G47 Ugatuzi Tower in Hurlingham, Nairobi County has drawn protest from a section of Kenyans who moved to court to oppose the project.
Kenya County Government Workers Union (KCGWU) wants the High Court to halt the project spearheaded by the Council of Governors (COG).
The union sought for court orders to bar the Local Authority Pension Trust (Lap Trust) and County Pension Fund (CPF) from providing funds for the construction of the skyscraper.
Secretary-General Roba Duba argued that the governors were constructing the building on a prime plot owned by the county workers and that their pension was being used to fund the project. ....

Summary
Kenya County Government Workers Union has challenged the planned construction of the multi-billion Ugatuzi Towers, a project spearheaded by the Council of Governors.
The union is further seeking to prohibit CPF from constructing G47 Ugatuzi Towers on a prime plot that belongs to county workers pension fund.
