PPP launches Benazir Mazdoor Card in Sindh - Newspaper

KARACHI: Pakistan Peoples Party chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari on Saturday asked the federal government to direct the Federal Board of Revenue to stop collection of the Workers Welfare Fund immediately and the funds collected so far should be transferred to Sindh government.
He said this while addressing the distribution ceremony of Benazir Mazdoor Card organised by the labour department here at the CM House. The ceremony was attended by Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah, provincial ministers, industrialist, labour leaders and workers.
Mr Bhutto-Zardari said that the PPP government in Sindh was observing Labour Day by launching the ‘Benazir Mazdoor Card’ under which workers would be able to avail all necessary benefits and facilities such as education, health, marriage grants, financial assistance, scholarships and pensions. ....

KARACHI: The Pakistan Institute of Labour Education and Research (Piler) on Saturday held a seminar on the ‘Situation of implementation of the minimum wages law’ in the light of Sindh High Court’s decision regarding the janitors who work for the cantonment.
It was demanded that the government ensure payment of the minimum wages to all workers especially the janitors working with civic bodies, security guards and petrol pump workers.
The event was held at the Karachi Press Club.
Rights activist Naeem Sadiq, the main petitioner in the matter, said that he had been contacted by a few of his friends concerned about very low wages of sanitary workers, security guards, etc. ....
