BUTTERWORTH: The Sessions Court here Friday set May 28 for mention of the corruption and money laundering cases involving former Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng, his wife Betty Chew Gek Cheng and businesswoman Phang Li Koon.
Judge Ahmad Azhari Abdul Hamid set the date after lawyers RSN Rayer, representing Lim and his wife, and  A. Ruben Kumar,  representing Phang, applied to be given three months to examine the more than 1,000-page documents that were submitted when the matter came up for case management Friday.
Deputy public prosecutors Syafiq Hasim and Ashrof Adrin Kamarul appeared for the prosecution. ....

Lawyers request time to study documents: Court sets May 28 for mention of cases involving Guan Eng, wife, businesswoman


BUTTERWORTH (Feb 19): The Sessions Court here today set May 28 for mention of the corruption and money laundering cases involving former Penang chief minister Lim Guan Eng, his wife Betty Chew Gek Cheng and businesswoman Phang Li Koon.
Judge Ahmad Azhari Abdul Hamid set the date after lawyers RSN Rayer, representing Lim and his wife, and A Ruben Kumar, representing Phang, applied to be given three months to examine the more than 1,000-page documents that were submitted when the matter came up for case management today.
Deputy Public Prosecutors (DPPs) Syafiq Hasim and Ashrof Adrin Kamarul appeared for the prosecution.
However, all three accused were not in court as they had been exempted from attending today’s proceedings. ....

BUTTERWORTH: The defence team in the corruption and money laundering case involving former finance minister Lim Guan Eng, his wife Betty Chew Gek Cheng and businesswoman Phang Li Koon has requested more time to go through 1,000 documents handed over by the prosecution.
The documents were just served to us a few days ago.
There are 1,000 pages and we will need time to go through the documents. We need to advise our clients and take instructions from them.
There could be a constitutional challenge filed on the charges. We may also file an interlocutory application. ....

Guan Eng's graft trial to start on June 8, 2021


KUALA LUMPUR (Dec 21): The trial of four corruption charges against former Penang chief minister Lim Guan Eng involving the Penang undersea tunnel project will commence on June 8, 2021. 
Sessions Court Judge Justice Azura Alwi today fixed a total of 31 days of trial to take place on several dates in June to December next year. They are June 8-11, July 12-16, July 28-29, Aug 16-20, Sept 6-10, Sept 20-24 and Dec 13-17. 
Deputy Public Prosecutor (DPP) Wan Shaharuddin Wan Ladin, who is leading the prosecution team, indicated to the judge that 80 to 90 witnesses will be called to testify against Guan Eng. 
During case management today, the prosecution applied to amend some details of two of the charges involving the addition of a specific time frame of the alleged offence being committed and removal of some words that are not elements of the charge.  ....

More than 100 documents submitted to defence over Guan Eng and wife's corruption case, says prosecution


BUTTERWORTH (Bernama): The prosecution has handed over more than 100 documents to the defence team in the corruption and money laundering case involving former Penang chief minister Lim Guan Eng, his wife Betty Chew Gek Cheng and businesswoman Phang Li Koon.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Syafiq Hasim informed Sessions Court Judge Ahmad Azhari Abdul Hamid this during the case management on Friday (Dec 18).
He also told the court that the prosecution would submit five more documents, along with more than 100 other documents that had been submitted previously, in the form of hard copy, as requested by the defence.
Lawyer RSN Rayer, representing Lim and Betty, did not object to it and the court set Feb 19 for mention, as had been agreed by both parties. ....
