N.B. Reports 13 New COVID-19 Cases

One case was in the Edmundston Zone 4 region:
an individual 19 and under and the case is under investigation.
Three cases were in the Bathurst Zone 6 region:
an individual 19 and under; and
two people 60-69.
Two of the cases are contacts of previously confirmed cases and the other case is under investigation.
One case was in the Miramichi Zone 7 region:
an individual 50-59 and is a contact of a previously confirmed case.
Public Health has officially declared an outbreak of COVID-19 at Vida Living, an apartment building in Oromocto.
As of today, 11 cases are related to this outbreak.
“All the residents at this complex have received direction and advice from Public Health,” said Dr. Cristin Muecke, deputy chief medical officer of health. ....

Like many health care professionals on the frontlines, nurses are feeling exhausted after 13 months of working during a global pandemic.
New Brunswick Nurses Union president Paula Doucet says a chronic shortage of R.N.’s means existing nurses are asked to work exorbitant amounts of overtime.
“One more event like the one we’re experiencing now in the Edmundston Zone 4 region and I really feel that this health care system may crumble down around us.”
She thinks the military could be called in similar to what happened in Ontario and Quebec last year. ....

Public Health says eleven of the 14 cases are contacts of a previously confirmed case and three are under investigation.
The two new cases in Saint John Zone 2 are as follows:
an individual 50-59. This case is travel related.
an individual 60-69. This case is a contact of a case.
The number of active cases in New Brunswick is 141 with 7 people recovering from the virus since Tuesday.
Nineteen patients are in hospital including 13 in an intensive care unit.
There have been 33 COVID-related deaths in New Brunswick since the pandemic began.

7 New COVID-19 Cases, Update On Zone 4 Outbreak

New Brunswick Public Health announced seven new cases of COVID-19 on Thursday.
Six of the cases were in the Edmundston Zone 4 region while the other was in the Fredericton Zone 3 region.
The province is reporting record numbers of hospitalizations in Zone 4 as the region struggles with the variant strain first identified in the U.K.
According to Vitalité Health Network, there are now 13 COVID-19 patients receiving care at the Edmundston Regional Hospital, seven of whom are in the intensive care unit and six are on respirators.
Two patients have been transferred to the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital in Fredericton. ....
