The government on Wednesday preponed introduction of ultra-clean Euro-VI grade petrol and diesel in the national capital by two years to April 2018 to help fight air pollution that has reached alarming levels.

Coronavirus-hit India thanks Saudi Arabia, for supplying LMO
India thanked Saudi Arabia and other Gulf Cooperation Council member states; for supplying liquid medical oxygen (LMO) in the fight against the coronavirus crisis.
In a series of tweets on Friday, India’s Oil Minister Dharmendra Pradhan also welcomed offers made by Saudi Arabia; and others to supply containers for the next six months; and for an assurance of a steady commercial supply of medical oxygen to India.
“Deeply appreciate the initial gesture of goodwill with complimentary LMO supplies; particularly from UAE, Kuwait, Bahrain & Saudi Arabia,” the Indian oil minister said.
He thanked Saudi Arabia’s Minister of Energy Prince Abdulaziz and his other counterparts of the GGC countries for their extended support and special gesture of solidarity with India, adding; “I received their wholesome support for ensuring the commercial supply of LMO to India; especially at a time when India is battling the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic.”

Oil companies on Tuesday announced a steep hike in the price of non subsidised domestic LPG cylinder by Rs 94 and the subsidised domestic LPG cylinder has been hiked by Rs 4.56. The new price of LPG cylinder will be applicable from Wednesday.

Speaking at a roundtable on hydrogen economy, Pradhan said the government is "committed to augmenting the hydrogen supply chain infrastructure in the country", including integrating it with flagship programs like SATAT that generates compressed biogas from municipal and agri waste.

India will augment its hydrogen supply chain infrastructure as it looks to accelerate plans to generate the carbon-free fuel, which may have an edge over other non-fossil fuel sources, Oil Minister Dharmendra Pradhan said Thursday. "Hydrogen has great potential to emerge as a future source of energy," he said. "The enthusiasm about hydrogen has a simple reason -- whether it's used in a fuel cell or burned to create heat, wherever hydrogen replaces fossil fuels, it slows global warming."

The Devendra Fadnavis government has decided to accept the Centre's suggestion of Rs 2 per liter cut in Value added tax (VAT) on petrol and diesel, according to the sources.
Centre has suggested the states to lower the tax. Although, the state government had previously rejected the suggestion, contending that the state’s exchequer would not be able to bear the loss.

New Delhi: The government will look to reduce prices of petrol and diesel through a cut in taxes when the time comes, the head of the agency responsible for excise and other indirect tax collections said on Tuesday.
Record excise duty on petrol and diesel helped indirect tax collections rise by more than 59 per cent in the fiscal year ended March 31 (2020-21) when compared to the previous year.
"We are very hopeful that revenue in the coming months is going to be very strong," Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) Chairman M Ajit Kumar said over a video call with journalists to give out tax collection numbers.

Oil Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Wednesday discussed efforts to revamp strategic energy partnership between India and the US with the visiting US Presidential Special Envoy for Climate John Kerry.
Calling his meeting "productive", Pradhan tweeted that the discussions focused "on collaborating on technology and finance to further develop mutually beneficial low-carbon pathways in fast-growing India's energy market, including in gas, RE, biofuels & in hydrogen."
RE stands for renewable energy.
"Also, discussed the ongoing efforts to revamp the strategic energy partnership with Energy Secretary @SecGranholm with focus on cleaner and green energies, including through the deployment of future technologies for carbon capture, battery storage and hydrogen," he added.
