People have taken notice since signs went up temporarily closing a nature trail at Fairbank Oil Fields.
“I started getting calls,” said office manager Pat McGee about the 2-kilometre trail through about 40.5 hectares of naturalized area in Oil Springs that passes near 56 operating oil wells, various wildlife and historical markings about oil extraction in the area dating back to the 1860s.

“I guess our reach is further afield than I thought,” McGee said.
A 25-metre bridge near the trail’s entrance over Black Creek has been closed since last week for an estimated $8,000 to $10,000 in repairs, she said. Plans are to reopen it for the summer. ....
