As of July 6, according to the Ministry of Health (MOH) 56 per cent of the target population has received at least one dose and just under 10 per cent are now fully vaccinated nationwide.
I was hoping that the uptake of those taking the vaccine would have improved, but it seems the hesitation factor is still huge and one cannot put a timeline to herd immunity.
That said, I am grateful to the leaders in the communities for taking up the challenge to convince their people to take the jab. ....

THE Accident Compensation Commission Fiji (ACCF) has paid out $3.9 million to persons injured in motor vehicle accidents since January 2018.
ACCF said it received 985 applications for motor vehicle injuries related compensation since January 2018, of which 223 were approved and paid out.
This, according to an ACCF presentation made during a Fiji Trades Union Congress meeting recently.
ACCF said it declined 45 injury related applications and 717 were still being processed. ....

A journalist who lost a tooth and fractured another when a soccer ball hit his face was among those who received payouts from the Accident Compensation Commission Fiji (ACCF).
The ACCF said in a presentation to the Fiji Trades Union Congress meeting recently that this was a work-related injury.
“The worker was a journalist and while taking pictures at a soccer tournament a ball hit his camera which hit his mouth causing injuries,” said the ACCF.
The $6000 payout was for missing front middle tooth and fracture of another tooth.
The ACCF received 1121 applications for injury claims and approved payments for 148 that amounted to $1.35 million. ....

Accident Compensation Commission Fiji CEO Parvez Akbar and his team conducted an awareness session with the Occupational Health and Safety lecturers and students at the Fiji National University today.
The session covered the rights, entitlements and obligations under the Accident Compensation Act 2017.
According to the ACCF, students and academic staff asked a number of questions in relation to the scheme.
The students were provided statistics regarding motor vehicle, employment and school accidents, including the number of applications received, the amount of compensation paid, the causes of accidents and the nature of injuries from these types of accidents. ....
