The High Court of India’s Madhya Pradesh state has restrained police from arresting a Catholic nun accused of attempting to convert a Hindu woman to Christianity.
The bench of the court in Jabalpur city on March 16 also asked the accused, Sister Bhagya of the Sisters of the Destitute congregation, to cooperate with police in the investigation of the case against her. ....

Madhya Pradesh High Court in central India has granted bail to five of nine Christians arrested a month ago on charges of violating a law that criminalizes religious conversions.
The court on Feb. 4 granted bail after state police failed to substantiate the charges filed against the five.
“The other four in jail are also expected to get bail this week as they have moved the High Court against a trial court that denied them bail,” said Pastor Patras Savil, who is helping those arrested to secure their legal rights. ....

The BJP government in Madhya Pradesh introduced an anti-conversion bill in the state assembly that replaced an ordinance brought to check religious conversions through marriage or by any other fraudulent means. 
Cleared by the cabinet in December and promulgated in January, the bill replaced the ordinance which had provisions of 10 years imprisonment in some cases and a hefty fine for violators.

Christians in India’s Jharkhand state were hospitalized after suffering injuries following an attack by radical Hindi nationalists who accused them of constructing an unauthorized church and converting people to Christianity. 
Persecution watching International Christian Concern reports that on Feb. 11, a mob of 30 Hindu nationalists, led by a man named Shankar, raided the construction site of a new church building and attacked the Christians. 
Many Christians were quickly injured in the attack, including Pastor Ramnath Ram, Pravesh Ram, Sunil Ram, Shiv Shankar Kumar, Shambhu Kumar, Ayan Kumar, Anita Devi, and Ruby Devi. ....

Nine Christians charged under a newly enacted anti-conversion law in central India s Madhya Pradesh state plan to seek bail from the state s High Court after a trial court denied them bail.
The court in Indore city turned down the bail application on Jan. 27, a day after the Protestant Christians were arrested from a Catholic media center where they had gathered for a routine prayer service. ....
