TV journalist undergoes cancer surgery
Channel 7 chief football reporter, Mark Stevens, is recovering from bowel cancer surgery at Epworth Richmond and has a simple message for others, “get checked”.
Mr. Stevens experienced some niggling symptoms during the several months he spent reporting from the AFL hub in Queensland, during the pandemic last year.
“As I was working in the hub, I put off getting it checked for a month or two,” Mr Stevens said.
In February this year, he saw his GP who immediately told him to have a colonoscopy.
After the colonoscopy, Gastroenterologist Associate Professor Andrew Metz, delivered the news to Mr Stevens that cancer had been detected and surgery was needed. ....

Epworth HealthCare nurse, Erica Riley, is one of thousands of Epworth employees and doctors who worked during the marathon that is COVID-19 pandemic.
The Emergency Department nurse at Epworth Richmond treated a number of COVID-19 patients throughout the pandemic.
Away from work, Erica qualified to compete in this weekend’s three-day Ultraman event in Queensland. A race that includes a 10-kilometre swim, 421 kilometres on the bike, and an 84.3-kilometre run.
In recognition of the efforts of all healthcare workers, Erica plans to run the last five kilometres of the double-marathon in personal protective equipment (PPE). ....

COVID-19 vaccine roll out continues for Epworth frontline employees


Frontline Epworth HealthCare workers across our Melbourne hospitals have begun receiving their COVID-19 vaccination.
More than 800 Epworth employees and doctors will be vaccinated in the initial group of 1A frontline healthcare workers, including staff in our emergency departments at Epworth Richmond and Epworth Geelong and across our intensive care units.
Epworth Richmond ED nurse Bronwyn Potton is among those to be vaccinated recently at a health vaccination hub managed by St Vincent’s Hospital.
Ms Potton urges everyone to consider being vaccinated.
“The COVID-19 vaccines in Australia have passed strict tests by the Therapeutic Goods Administration, which means they are safe and effective.” ....
