Discussions continue in many parts of the country on the easing of mobility restrictions to reopen the economy, restore its health, and bring back jobs and the livelihood of many. In a study by the EON Group and its research partner, Tangere, out of 4,400 respondents, 64% are still unconvinced about getting vaccinated. The primary reasons for hesitancy are fear of the long-term side effects, its efficacy and safety, in addition to brand distrust. People with pre-existing conditions worry that these will make them sicker, some think these do not work or don’t believe in vaccines at all, while others are not permitted because of religious beliefs. ....

Gov't must ramp up testing, strengthen contact tracing, says ex-DOH chief

“Tinatantsa na kailangan ng 130,000 to 160,000 tests per day, pero ang average lamang natin ay nasa 50,000 per day (It’s estimated that 130,000 to 160,000 tests per day are needed, but our average is only 50,000 per day),” Dr. Esperanza Cabral said during the “Talakayang Bayan Para sa Kalusugan” organized by 1Sambayan.
“Sa ngayon kulang ang ginagawa nating testing para malaman kung sino ang may COVID, sino ang walang COVID dito sa atin (So far we’re not doing enough testing to find out who has COVID-19 and who does not),” she added.
The country is conducting an average of over 55,000 COVID-19 tests per day, according to testing czar Vince Dizon. ....

Ex-DOH chief says solons, doctors behind Ivermectin giveaway should be held liable

Anakalusugan Party-list Rep. Mike Defensor and Sagip Party-list Rep. Rodante Marcoleta gave away Ivermectin capsules to residents of Quezon City last week.
“I think the people, the politicians, the doctors, who administered the Ivermectin are liable and should be investigated and charges should be filed against them if found that there’s a probable cause that violated the law,” Dr. Esperanza Cabral said in an interview with ANC.
In April, the Food and Drug Administration granted special permits to six hospitals to use Ivermectin on COVID-19 patients.
However, the permit does not include the distribution of the said medication outside of the hospitals. ....
