Every new mum looks forward to holding her newborn in her arms as soon as they’re brought into the world. But sometimes fate has a different plan and unexpected complications happen, as was the case with lifestyle blogger Melissa Koh.
Koh welcomed her second child on June 17, and was over the moon to meet her newborn baby Asher. But right after his birth, the new mum’s time with him was cut short as he was immediately placed in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU). ....

SINGAPORE: The Ministry of Health (MOH) has appointed a committee tasked with looking at issues related to Integrated Shield Plans (IPs) - which have been the subject of debate between healthcare insurers and private sector doctors.
The row stems from insurers excluding many specialists from their IP doctor panels, which guide policyholders on selecting medical providers.

The 12-member Multilateral Healthcare Insurance Committee (MHIC) will come into effect on Apr 27, said MOH in a press release on Wednesday (Apr 14). ....

In March last year, financial adviser Siti Nur Indra Jalil tested positive for Covid-19 and was warded at Mount Alvernia Hospital for 49 days.
For the first 10 days in hospital, she had a fever of between 39 and 40 deg C, was immobile from sore muscles and joint pains, was breathless and could not taste or smell anything.
Yet, she continued mentoring youth from her hospital bed as she encouraged them online to study hard and pursue a higher education. Ms Indra, 26, was one of three people The Straits Times spoke to who had been hit hard by the Covid-19 pandemic - and still helped others. ....

SINGAPORE, March 5 A workgroup formed last month aims to improve the health of ethnic minority groups here, as the Ministry of Health (MOH) seeks to close “significant disparities” in the health behaviours and outcomes across Singapore’s ethnic groups.
Announcing this effort during the debate on its budget in Parliament today, the ministry said in a statement that it would focus its efforts first on the Malay community before expanding it to other groups, such as Indians. ....
