“We have been experiencing some technical issues… stick around, anything can happen,” Nine’s Cameron Williams told Sydney viewers last night.
His explanation followed several stories from
Nine News Melbourne screening in the Sydney market, with Peter Hitchener unexpectedly popping up in the middle of a Peter Overton-led bulletin.
Overton joked, “We went to Melbourne for a taste of the GTV news.”
Hopefully this isn’t a return to 2016’s frequent tech problems which saw Overton reading the news on Melbourne screens.
The hiccup was attributed to technical reasons, unrelated to the recent hacking of Nine’s computer systems. ....

Nine News Sydney was briefly forced off the air on Monday night, with Nine diverting the feed to Nine News Melbourne for a short period of time.
The bulletin cut out and news anchor Peter Overton was replaced on NSW screens by Melbourne’s Peter Hitchener, and then switched back to the Sydney studio several minutes later.
That left sports presenter Cam Williams on screen, who blamed technical issues… “But it’s great to have you with us. Stick around, anything could happen.”
A short time later, Hitchener tweeted: “It was because of some technical issues at Nine Sydney, which were sorted out after a few minutes.” ....

Peter, who has since returned to work, added that he had only started suffering with migraines over the past few years.
It was the first time on air and I hope it never happens again, he said.
Shortly after the footage aired, Nine - who Peter has been reading the news for since 1998 - issued a statement to confirm that he was suffering from a migraine.
He is now resting and we expect to see him back on deck tomorrow night. He is grateful for everyone’s concern, Nine s Twitter account said.
