Police yesterday arrested four people on charge of gang rape of a RMG worker in Ashulia, on the outskirts of the capital.
The arrestees are Saiful Islam Babu, 23, Md Arif, 22, Abu Bakkar, 25, and Rana Mollah, 28, of Gazirchat in Ashulia.
The eighteen-year-old victim was sent to the One-stop Crisis Centre of Dhaka Medical College Hospital, said Ziaul Islam, inspector of Ashulia Police Station, adding that they held the accused from Gazirchat area.
A rape case was filed against the four with the police station, he said.
According to the case statement, the accused forcibly took her to an abandoned room of a house of Saiful and gang-raped her on Wednesday night when she was returning home from a friend s house at Gazirchat. ....

Police today arrested three persons from Chattogram s Saltgola area for allegedly gang-raping a 30-year-old garment worker at knifepoint in the city s Customs area last night.
The accused rapists are Md Monir and Md Jamal. Name of the other accused could not be known immediately, reports our Chattogram correspondent.
Police arrested them [the accused] after receiving a complaint from the victim through the National Emergency Number 999 around 12:30am today, said Milon Mahmud, deputy commissioner (Port) of Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP).
The suspects allegedly tied the victim s husband in a tin-shed room and raped her beside the foot-over bridge at the Customs intersection area between 9:30pm and 11:30pm last night, police sources said quoting the victim. ....

Compensation for rape victims and their family members remains elusive in the existing criminal justice system, with a clear mandate absent in the relevant law, say legal experts.
On the other hand, a law drawn up to address compensation for victims of violent crimes, including rape, has been in the draft stages for 14 years.
Legal experts said the current system has left rape victims and their families to fend for themselves during long, difficult trial proceedings, deprived of state support they desperately need.

Two schoolgirls lost their way back home in the capital s Badda from an outing on the night of February 8 last year. Wandering on the road for a few hours, they came across one Emon Hossain.
Emon, 30, sacked organising secretary of Badda Thana Krishak League, promised the girls, both aged around 13, to take them to his home nearby, saying they were like his daughter who is of their age and can stay the night safely with her.
