Pressure mounts on Community Care to reverse changes to eligibility criteria

Pressure mounted yesterday for Community Care Ltd to reverse changes introduced last year to eligibility criteria for its ‘community officer scheme’, with campaigner and Unite the Union claiming the sudden change had left many people facing financial hardship.
Campaign group Community Care Action Group wants the charity to revert back to the previous criteria and pay arrears to those who have missed out on the allowance due to the change.
The group said it had engaged in dialogue with both Community Care and the Gibraltar Government, which funds the charity, but that its 184 members were frustrated at the lack of progress to a solution. ....

On Saturday, more than 200 workers from the Jacobs Douwe Egberts (JDE) plant in Banbury, Oxfordshire, along with family and supporters, picketed the plant as part of a 24-hour strike against the company’s use of Section 188 “fire and rehire” notices to push through contract changes.

Nestle has announced plans to cut almost 600 jobs and close a confectionery factory in Newcastle.
The world s largest food company wants to close its site in Fawdon by the end of 2023 and focus production on factories in York and Halifax.
It said 573 jobs would be put at risk by the changes.
The GMB and Unite unions said 475 jobs would be lost at Fawdon, where Fruit Pastilles are made, and 98 at the York factory, which produces KitKats.
Nestle said it would invest £20m into the York facility to increase production of KitKat in the city where the brand was first created in 1935 . ....

Nestlé Confectionery has announced it plans to close its factory in Fawdon in north east England and streamline its production line in York - resulting in 573 job losses.
The move is part of a £29.4m investment at its factories in York and Halifax intended to support the company’s long-term success in an increasingly competitive category.
The proposed changes would create a more efficient manufacturing footprint and, in turn, allow greater strategic investment in Nestlé’s biggest confectionery brands, the company said in a statement. ....
