Kenya and DRC Sign Defense Pact to Cooperate Against Islamic State

On April 21, Kenya and the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) signed agreements on security and defense amid growing threats from Islamic State in Central African Province (ISCAP), which is active in the eastern DRC. The security and defense pacts provide mechanisms for cooperation between the two countries in counter-terrorism, immigration, arms smuggling, cyber security, and customs and border control. Presidents Uhuru Kenyatta of Kenya and Felix Tshisekendi of the DRC signed the agreements alongside other ministers of the economic and maritime transport sectors (The Star, April 21). LILONGWE, May 23 (Xinhua) Malawi government on Saturday welcomed the body of a soldier who was killed in the United Nations Organization Stabilization Mission in the Democratic Republic of Congo (MONUSCO) on May 10.
The Malawian peacekeeper, Lance Corporal Chitenji Kamanga, 28, was killed in an offensive by rebels at Beni, in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
Her body arrived in Malawi Saturday afternoon through Kamuzu International Airport and it was welcomed by Homeland Security minister Richard Chimwendo, and Malawi Defence Force (MDF) Commander General Vincent Nundwe, among others.
The Homeland Security Officer described the death of the Malawi soldier as a great loss to Malawi Defence Force and Malawi as a whole. ....
