Hospitality associations across Maharashtra hold silent protests on closure of operations

Hospitality associations across Maharashtra including the FHRAI, HRAWI, NRAI, AHAR and other local Associations organised statewide silent protests earlier today against the Maharashtra Government’s recent Break The Chain order. 
Organised under the United Hospitality Forum of Maharashtra (UHF), the Associations initiated campaign #MissionRoziRoti to highlight the Hospitality industry’s desperate bid for survival. Lakhs of restaurant participated in the silent protest with their employees standing outside the establishments holding placards. The campaign #MissionRoziRoti has gained momentum on social media with several restaurateurs and hoteliers in the State posting pictures, messages, and videos showing support and solidarity to the campaign. ....

Nagpur: Protests by traders against the 25-day Covid-induced restrictions continued on Thursday, especially in Sitabuldi, Dharampeth, Jaripatka, Ganjakhet and Central Avenue.
Sitabuldi Merchants’ Association (SMA), along with other traders’ associations including the 150-member parent body Nag Vidarbha Chambers of Commerce (NVCC), staged ‘thali bajao, sarkar jagao’ agitation in the city to protest against the state government’s “oppressive steps” to check the spread of coronavirus. They exhorted the government to revoke the restrictions without delay.
“As chief minister Uddhav Thackeray had on Wednesday assured to announce the state’s decision on whether or not non-essential shops will be allowed to open on April 9, we will wait till Friday morning,” the agitated traders said. ....

Jewellers and restaurant and mall owners have urged the State government to relax the restrictions imposed in view of the rising COVID-19 cases to protect jobs and ensure livelihood for millions.
The All India Gem and Jewellery Domestic Council (GJC) on Thursday wrote to Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray urging him to allow jewellers to operate on Gudi Padwa and other summer festival days as well as during the wedding season of April-June. ....

Mumbai: Sporadic protests by traders erupted on Day Two of the Covid-19 shutdown, especially in Chembur and Navi Mumbai.
On Wednesday, hoteliers’ federations AHAR, HRAWI and NRAI along with other district associations formed the United Hospitality Forum of Maharashtra (UHFM) to protest against what it called “oppressive steps” taken by the state government in its bid to control the pandemic. UHFM will conduct silent protests at various restaurants across Maharashtra at 12.30pm on Thursday.
AHAR president Shivanand Shetty said, “Lakhs of families are dependent on this industry. So we have formed this forum to voice our protest and press for measures that are conducive for us to do business.” ....
