Researchers at Tel Aviv’s Ichilov Hospital have discovered that a new cancer drug has been successfully used to treat patients seriously ill with the coronavirus, Kan News reported Friday.
The drug EXO-CD24 is based on a biological protein normally associated with cancer research that is known to calm the body’s immune system, which in the second stage of coronavirus attacks itself and causes severe breathing problems.
The treatment developed by Professor Nadir Arber of the Integrated Cancer Prevention Center at the hospital was tested on 30 patients in moderate and serious condition suffering from the virus with a 95 percent positive result. ....

The drug was developed at the hospital by Prof. Nadir Arber. Ichilov director Prof. Ronni Gamzu: Initial results are excellent.
Ichilov Hospital in Tel Aviv has published results of a study on the effect on Covid-19 of a drug called EXO-CD24, developed at the hospital. Thirty patients in moderate to severe condition received the drug, and 29 of them were released from hospital within three to five days. The condition of the thirtieth patient has not been reported.
The results certainly arouse hope for the future. It should be pointed out, however, that several companies, in Israel and elsewhere, have reported good results from drugs to treat Covid-19, among them RedHill Biopharma Ltd. However, data shows the average coronavirus patient needing hospital treatment spends up to three weeks in a bed.
Scientists gave 30 patients with serious or moderate Covid infections a dose of the drug. 
It is not clear how old the patients were but data shows younger patients are much less likely to die from coronavirus and recover quicker. 
Twenty-nine showed significant improvement within three to five days. It is not clear whether the patients were also receiving other drugs or treatment.
