The City of Monett is starting a flushing program for the water system. The water department is using a process called Unidirectional Flushing, which is designed to bring the water through the system in a controlled fashion at velocities sufficient to provide a scouring action within the distribution piping. The process will help remove scale and debris from pipes and valves to improve the quality of drinking water by providing better chlorine treatment. When our crews are working in the area, residents may experience water that is murky due to the process. When crews finish work in an area, the city recommends residents run their water for a few minutes from a hydrant or tub. Residents should be sure to run cold water until it is clear so they don’t pull the water with some color to it into hot water heaters. The city does not recommend washing clothes, especially whites, when crews are in the area doing this work. Ozark Festival Orchestra Pops Concert Slated for April 25 in Monett
Ozark Festival Orchestra
The Ozark Festival Orchestra will present the second concert of its 2020-21 season with music from Broadway, the movies, pop songs and video games at 3 p.m. on Sunday, April 25, in Monett.
This will be the second annual Marty Beckwith Memorial Pops Concert, in memory of the OFO s longtime cellist. Under the baton of Music Director Todd Borgmann, the orchestra will explore music about epics, with selections from the Broadway musical “Les Misèrables,” then head to Hollywood for James Horner s music from “Apollo 13,” Hans Zimmer s “Gladiator,” Henry Mancini s “Pink Panther” and a suite from Ennio Morricone s Spaghetti Western films. Musical selections will also tap pop culture with selections from the rock band Journey and a suite from “Video Games Live.” ....

Any Southwest Missouri resident 65 and older is now able to get a COVID-19 vaccine with CoxHealth. Participants must show proof of age and residency, and this is only for first doses of the vaccine. Individuals may sign up at www.coxhealth.com/covid/vaccine/first-dose-scheduling/ or by calling 417-269-1300. Online scheduling is suggested if possible. There are currently spots available in Monett, Lamar and Springfield. Additional spots will be added via the same link when more become available in the coming weeks.
Pierce City Senior Center will be closed through March due to COVID. The center will evaluate the situation at a later date to consider re-opening when it is safe to do so. ....
