Celebration of George Zangalis' life open to all

The celebration of the life of George Zangalis, the well-loved Communist Party of Australia activist, unionist and multiculturalist, that was planned before his death on 25 March, will still take place as scheduled on the afternoon of Sunday, 25 April at Alphington Grammar’s Multi-purpose Andrianakos Centre in Alphington.
Long-time friend Theo Markos, who will also talk at the event said: “George, a true visionary, was one of the major proponents and advocates of multiculturalism in Australia, as well as a fierce campaigner for social justice and workers’ rights.
“The Community in conjunction with the Rail, Tram and Bus Union (RTBU),Radio 3ZZZ, and numerous other community organisations will be celebrating George’s life of activism on Sunday, 25 April, at 2.30 pm. …We are looking forward to our members and the broader community coming together to reflect and honour George’s remarkable contribution,” Mr Markos said. ....

The South Central Zone Insurance Employees’ Federation vice president P. Satish has recalled the historic struggle for the achievement of Visakhapatnam Steel Plant (VSP) and 32 persons losing their lives for the sake of the plant.
At a seminar on ‘Visakha Ukku Parirakshana’, organised by the Insurance Corporation Employees’ Union(ICEU), Visakhapatnam, here on Sunday, Mr. Satish, who is also general secretary of ICEU, Rajahmundry, said that the Centre, in the name of reforms, was dismantling the VSP. New political movement emerges - Slovenia Times

Ljubljana – A new political movement called Povežimo Slovenijo (Unite Slovenia) has emerged. The initiative is wants to bring together a number of smaller, non-parliamentary parties, groups, local initiatives and individuals of various values and political stances to form a joint slate for the next general elections.
The movement’s programme and its cooperation strategy is based on Slovenia’s constitution and has been modelled on such projects abroad, most notably in Austria and Switzerland where big-tent pre-election coalitions are frequent.
The initiator and coordinator of the movement is vice president of the Greens Nada Pavšer, who believes that the emerging list could get at least 20% in the next election. ....

Hyderabad, Jan 27 : Government employees in Telangana took to streets on Wednesday to lodge their protest against the Pay Revision Commission (PRC) report, which recommended 7.5 per cent salary hike over basic pay.
Furious over the meagre hike recommended by the panel, the employees and pensioners made it clear that nothing less than 43 per cent fitment (salary hike) will be acceptable to them.
Raising slogans against the government, the employees came out on streets in Hyderabad and other parts of the state and set afire the copies of PRC report. ....
