With the Christian season of Lent beginning Wednesday, bakeries are preparing and selling paczkis for residents to celebrate Fat Tuesday.
Paczkis are traditionally eaten on the Tuesday before Lent, originating from Poland as a way for the household to use up all the shortening, eggs, and preserves before the 40-day long Lenten season begins. While they are filled with crème or fruit, paczkis are different from jelly donuts due to their shape and the richer dough used. ....
