HIGHLIGHTS
Nearly 11 lakh people have been evacuated by the governments of Odisha and West Bengal ahead of the cyclone.
Indian Navy ships and aircraft are on standby for rescue ops.
The cyclonic storm is likely to gain a maximum speed of 155 kmph to 165 kmph gusting to 185 kmph during landfall.
The states of West Bengal, Odisha and Jharkhand evacuated citizens on a war footing ahead of the landfall of Cyclone Yaas, which has intensified into a very severe cyclonic storm on its course over the Bay of Bengal. A red-coded warning alert for the Odisha and Bengal coasts was sounded by the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) on Tuesday. ....

Cyclone Yaas : Indian Naval Ships, Aircraft kept standby for Rescue and Relief Operations
Visakhapatnam, May 22 (UNI) As the low-pressure area in the North Andaman Seas is likely to intensify as a Cyclonic Storm ‘Yaas’ during the next 24 hours over the Bay of Bengal and moving North Westerly direction and likely to cross the coast between North Odisha and West Bengal around May 26 , Indian Navy is closely monitoring its movement.
Headquarters, Eastern Naval Command (ENC), and Naval Officers-in-Charge at West Bengal and Odisha Area have carried out preparatory activities to combat the effects of Cyclone ‘Yaas’ and is in constant liaison with the state administrations for rendering assistance as required, ENC said in a release here on Saturday. ....
