The USN wants to insert COTS technologies and open architecture designs into combat systems used by its surface vessels.
VTG announced on 7 April that it has won an IDIQ contract worth up to $188 million to work with the USN on modernising combat systems for surface vessels such as aircraft carriers, amphibious assault ships, cruisers and destroyers.
The Technical Insertion 16 (TI16) sustainment, installation, procurement and engineering services contract ‘enables the Navy to introduce the latest commercial off-the-shelf technologies and open architecture designs’ into combat systems such as the Aegis weapon system, VTG noted in a statement. ....
