Another Koch heading for double success!


The famous Alston Koch has had double success coming his way; first as a singer – remember his international hit ‘Disco Lady?’ – and, then the spotlight was focused on his acting capabilities, in the movie ‘According To Matthew,’ where Alston played the role of Fr. Matthew.
His son, however, seems to be going in the opposite direction – first gaining success as an actor, and now folks are talking about his singing, which some describe as awesome!

EU apprised of measures to meet commitments in reconciliation

Sri Lanka has apprised the European Union (EU) of progress in specific areas of reconciliation, as part of its regular engagement and dialogue with the organization, the Foreign Ministry said on Thursday night.
“Accordingly, the Foreign Ministry on June 25, informed the EU of action underway to revisit provisions of the Prevention of Terrorism Act, No 48 of 1979, with the study of existing legislation, past practice, and international best practices.”
The EU was informed of the decision made by the Cabinet of Ministers on June 21 to appoint a Cabinet Sub-committee and an Officials Committee to assist the Cabinet Sub-Committee, to review the PTA, and to submit a report to the Cabinet within three months. Toward this end, the Officials Committee was appointed on June 24, with senior representation from the Ministries of Justice, Defence, Foreign Affairs, ....

Professions supplementary to medicine also threaten trade union action from Tuesday

The Joint Council of Professions Supplementary to Medicine yesterday warned that they too would be compelled to take union action from 06 July 2021 unless the Health Ministry took action to redress their grievances.
The Joint Council had earlier held discussions with Ministry officials over 14 demands.
“However, the Ministry has done nothing to solve our longstanding problems. Instead of addressing the issues, Ministry officials are trying to win over some members of our unions to their side. They are also partial to some health sector trade unions. While they are given everything, other sectors are ignored. If people are inconvenienced by our strike, the Health Ministry must take responsibility,” President of the Joint Council, Ravi Kumudesh said. ....
