MARINA has high hopes for new Bacolod City training institute

The Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA) has launched in Bacolod City a training institute that aims to provide global leadership training to all maritime professionals.
The MARINA Training Institute (MarTI) in Bacolod, situated at the agency’s Western Visayas regional office in Barangay Mansilingan, is the academic arm of MARINA.

It is envisioned to become the country’s Maritime Innovation and Knowledge Center under Program 8 of the 10-year Maritime Industry Development Plan (MIDP).
MARINA Administrator Vice Admiral Robert A. Empedrad said MarTI intends to improve the agency’s capacity to innovate and operate modern technologies and help in addressing the changing trends in the maritime industry, as well as “to serve as a systematic educational and training system/facility.” ....

MARINA pursuing modernization drive to lower cost of doing business in shipping

THE Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA) said it is preparing a four-year modernization plan involving information technology upgrades which are expected to reduce the cost of doing business for its stakeholders in shipping.
“In a move to further enhance the delivery of its frontline services and to promote the ease of doing business, MARINA has commenced the preparation of a four-year road map for its information technology, which aims to modernize its equipment and facilities, integrate existing and develop new information systems, as well as automate its processes nationwide,” the agency said in a statement on Jan. 18.
MARINA said the modernization will run until 2024, complementing the goals set out in the ongoing 10-year Maritime Industry Development Plan. ....

Industry stakeholders pursue capital intensive projects for shipping – The Manila Times

The Integrated Seafarers of the Philippine (ISP) has started funneling significant investments that could reach P1 billion in several projects that include a shipyard in a bid to build five vessels that will include a training ship with 3,000 deadweight tonnage (DWT) and seven more small vessels for domestic shipping in the next five years.
